The only downside is that due to its popularity, getting a spot at this amazing campground during the summer holiday period can be a bit of a struggle, which is why a ballot is held every August in order to designate the spots. Although a summer vacation at this spot requires you to get on top of the situation a couple months earlier, we can promise you that it will be worth it in the end. If you missed out on a spot at Honeymoon Bay this summer, there are still plenty more opportunities throughout the year for you to experience what this campground has to offer. During less busy periods, Honeymoon Bay operates on a first come, first served basis.

4. Johanna Beach, VIC

If you’re ready to catch some awesome waves, Johanna Beach in Victoria is chock-full of them; and it just so happens to double as the perfect beach camping spot as well. Aside from being considered one of the best surfing spots for experienced surfers, Johanna Beach is also excellent for fishing, plus it’s located near many other natural attractions such as The Twelve Apostles, Triplet Falls and Melba Gully. If you’re big on hiking, why not tackle the Great Ocean Walk, which takes you from tall forests and rocky shores over to clifftops with spectacular views?

5. Vivonne Bay, SA

Voted as one of Australia’s best beaches, Vivonne Bay offers clear, still waters that make passing boats look like they’re floating on glass. The official campground is only walking distance away from the famous beach, and offers both powered and unpowered sites, along with amenities like toilets, showers and barbeques. Whether you want to do beach camping in a tent or in a caravan, Vivonne Bay caters for all sorts of outdoor adventurers.

6. Gunn Point, NT

Most outdoor-loving Territorians would’ve heard of Gunn Point, one of (if not the most) popular fishing and camping destinations in Northern Territory. With boat ramps available at Saltwater Arm, you might also want to think about taking your vessel out onto the water and going for a leisurely cruise. Just make sure to look out for saltwater crocodiles and stingrays!

7. Friendly Beaches, TAS

With a name like Friendly Beaches, you’re guaranteed a hospitable time when you spend your holiday at Isaacs Point, located in Freycinet National Park. Bookings are essential for a stay on this long, white sandy beach, where there are plenty of opportunities for fishermen to cast a line or for avid surfers to catch some waves. Just keep in mind that there is limited drinking water available on site, so you’ll have to stock up on water bottles and canisters before arriving.

8. Hamelin Bay, WA

There’s a reason Hamelin Bay Holiday Park is one of the most popular places to park a caravan in WA. Situated right next door to Hamelin Bay itself, there are plenty of amenities at this campsite to keep you and your travelling companions feeling comfortable throughout the summer. When you’re not swimming around in the water or making friends with the stingrays, fire up the barbeque for a tasty seaside dinner, visit the lighthouse in Augusta, or check out the local wineries during the day.
