Of course, you have to keep in mind that this place runs on a first come first served basis, so it’s important to get in quick.

With 94 campsites to choose from, you’re spoilt for choice at Woody Head Campground, whether you’re heading in with a tent or a caravan. Got friends who aren’t into the camping lifestyle? Well, there’s no excuse for them to stay at home, because there are on-site cabins available for booking as well. With picturesque ocean views, a relaxing atmosphere and all the necessary amenities, what more could you want at this unbeatable location?

4. Diamond Head Campground

Love a good hike? Well, Diamond Head Campground boasts some great hiking trails with wondrous views of the ocean; and you’ll be seriously rewarded for getting up early enough to see the impressive sunrise on your morning stroll. The blackened pillars of Split Rock reach all the way up to the sky and are the perfect place to snap an Instagram pic. And if that’s not enough, there are heaps of beautiful rockpools to explore nearby.

5. The Basin Campground

The Basin is one of Sydney’s most popular beach camping spots, and it’s pretty easy to see why. We’d strongly recommend taking a water taxi, boat or ferry from Palm Beach Wharf, because parking your car at West Head Road is going to be followed by a steep 2.8km walk to the campground- not the most ideal way to start your trip. The crystal-clear water begins shallow and is perfect for children and paddle boarding beginners. With lots of native wildlife roaming the campsite, including wallabies, ducks, goannas and kookaburras, it’s the perfect place for animal lovers too!

6. Trial Bay Gaol Campground

Don’t let the idea of a former prison being nearby turn you off this one- Trial Bay Gaol Campground is the perfect place to visit if you’re new to the wonderous world of beach camping. Chock-full of awesome amenities like a camp kitchen, barbeques, flushing toilets, hot showers and even a café, it’s a great place for first timers and experienced campers alike. Head on down in the summer to catch some waves or come by in winter for the chance to do some incredible whale watching!

7. Mystery Bay Campground
