ANTI-FLAP KIT INSTALLATION GUIDE
Looking at purchasing an anti-flap kit but feeling unsure? Here’s everything you need to know.
What are they?
In a nutshell, anti-flap kits are clamped to the sides of your awning to prevent excessive flapping. They are extremely versatile, meaning they not only prevent flapping, but also:
- prevent water from pooling on your awning
- have inbuilt tracks for installing annexes or end-walls
- prevent your awning from ripping and damage (extending the awning life)
- allow you to enjoy the use of an awning even in windy weather.
Our anti-flap kit is known as a Secura Bar – because, well, it does just that. Secures your awning!
What size and colour options can I get?
Two colors: White or black.
Three sizes: Short, Medium, or Long.
What one is right for me?
Colour is a personal choice and only affects aesthetics, so go for what you prefer.
The size should be determined by your awning projection measurement. It’s the measurement from the side of your van to the inside barrel of the awning. For a roll-out awning, extend your awning until the sail track on the roller is at 3 o’clock. If you have a box awning, measure to the inside of the cassette.
Steps to Install:
- Prepare the awning: Ensure it is rolled out and lock the awning so the roller is at 3 o’clock.
- Take out the Secura Bar from carton. The two bars will include the joiner piece fitted for packing purposes. By removing the 2 set screws, the joiner piece will slide out. Take out and reverse the direction, once complete, refix in place using the original set screws.
- Release the locking cam handles, also ensure the top clamp section of the Secura Bar is in the open position. Slide the two sections together.
The bracket needs to be attached to the side of van at approx. 15mm underneath the underside of roof fabric and approx. 20mm from the edge of fabric to centre of bracket. Secondly, a 10mm / 3/8” hole must be drilled into roller tube approx. 20mm from edge of fabric and 15mm down from fabric.
- The clip end can now be fixed into the wall bracket on the side of van. The top clamp section of the Secura Bar has to be in the open position. Lift up the bar until the it rests under the fabric of the awning. Extend fully out until the spigot falls into the place where the hole is, in the roller. The Secura Bar is now fully extended. Tighten the adjusting knob.
- The fabric must be held in position on top of the Secura Bar. This is the break in the middle of the two sections. Hold with one hand and tighten the locking cam handles with the other hand.
- Two sections of the Secura Bar should now be secured by the fabric
